David Brooks in, "The Lord of Misrule" claims that Donald Trump is a modern day version of what a fool would be. The author supports his claim by first attempting to compare Trump to King Davis but, he realized Trump had more in common with fools because he possessed some of their key characteristics. Brooks then says that people treat Trump's political tweets as if they were valid arguments when in truth, they are merely just carnival tricks. Lastly the Author states that Trump's tweets don't help with World issues but instead are just comebacks. Brooks purpose is to compare trump to a jester in order to say he is a fool. The author writes in a Jocular yet, serious tone for Americans. This work is significant because, it shows how trump has the characteristics of a fool.

David Brooks writes this column to compare Trump to the elite from centuries ago. This effectively uses the strategy syntax to describe how Trump's behavior is similar to how people acted long ago. Brooks starts of by using long compound complex sentences to draw out his data for his claim. This turns into a pattern of simple and compound complex sentences. An example would be when Brooks' decided to talk about king Dave and says "King David was most compelled when he danced". The sentence is short, curt and straight to the point. However when Brooks talks about Donald Trump and compares him to a medieval fool he uses compound complex sentences to describe Trump. The author uses semicolons to and comas to compare the elite now and the elite then. He uses this sentence structure to say that Donald trump is more complex and acts more like a fool then a President.
